Today will take a tour of the city, visiting:

Day 5Phnom Penh/Food Tour

Today, we will have plenty of time to enjoy things in Phnom Pehn.

This evening we will join a Food Tour, trying local specialties, from the Cambodian national dishes to more modern varieties.

Day 6 Day Trip to Koh Dach - Silk Island

Silk Island is the most visited of the Mekong River islands around Phnom Penh and is famous for its traditional silk production. On this tour, benefit from the undivided attention of a private guide as you experience local life on the island; visit the Coconut School, built from recycled materials; and discover the silk-making process with a tour of a silk farm.

Day 7Travel to Siem Reap w/full village tour stop in Battambang

Today we will wake very early to travel first to Battambang. There will meet our local tour guide for an in-depth adventure to real Cambodian life. We will:

Ride a tuk tuk
Experience a bamboo train
See/help create local handicrafts
Enjoy lunch in a local village
See Phnom Sompov Mountain and Bat Caves

Afterward, we will continue our journey to Siem Reap.

Day 8 FrankfurtSiem Reap

This morning, we will visit the War Museum of Cambodia, the only war museum in the country. Afterward we will stop at the Angkor National Museum.

For lunch, we will stop at Spoons Café, Spoons Cafe is one of a few dining facilities that provide training to young Cambodian adults. These cafes hire young adults and help them to gain experience in the hospitality industry. These trainees will serve you and may assist in the preparation of meals. Afterward, we will make a special stop at the Made in Cambodia Market – an artisan market that is packed with stalls selling local produce made by underprivileged villagers. You will be able to find various clothes, bags, and hand-made accessories. You can also purchase wood and stone carvings, and other souvenirs, including those made from recycled products.

Lastly, we will visit a local NGO working with children to learn more about access to education in Cambodia

Day 9Visit to Tonle Sap Lake and the Floating Villages

Today we head for the Tonle Sap Lake to explore the famous floating villages. We will Immerse ourselves in the daily life of locals here and in their extraordinary aquatic environment. We will visit one of the largest of the floating villages located on the Tonle Sap Lake, traveling by boat. Home to Khmer and ethnic Vietnamese and Cham communities.

We will also visit the floating crocodile and fish farm (depending on current water levels) and then onto the famous Queen Tara in the heart of the floating village for lunch.

Day 10Siem Reap – Temple Day

We wake early today to experience sunrise at Angor Wat. The temple complex of Angkor Wat was initially built as a Hindu temple complex for the god Vishnu during the Khmer Empire rule. However, it was gradually converted into a Buddhist temple in the late 12th century.

We will then visit the Angkor Thom Complex. AngkorThom is a city-temple complex in the Angkor Archeological Park. After lunch, we then head to Ta Prohm Temple, also known as Rajavihara, used to be a monastery and university. The temple was constructed during the 12th and 13th centuries. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was even used as a filming location for the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Making sure we arrive before 4 to get a great spot, we will wait to experience sunset at Phnom Bakheng. Phnom Bakheng is dedicated to the god Shiva and was previously used as the tomb of King Yasovarman I.

Tonight, we will see Apsara Dance, at Smile of Angkor Theatre. Aspara Dance is an indigenous Cambodian performance that resembles a ballet.

Day 11Siem Reap

We start the day off at Banteay Srei Temple before heading to Phnom Kulen National Park. Located about 48 km from Siem Reap, Phnom Kulen National Park was established in 1993, and is filled with sacred sites, waterfalls and Cambodian style shelters. We will first visit the River of Thousand Lingas (Kbal Spean). We will then visit the waterfall featured in the Tomb Raider film where we will have the opportunity to swim.

This afternoon, we will visit Kompong Phluk Floating Village. Situated about a 50-minute drive from Siem Reap, Kompong Phluk (sometimes called Kampong Phluk) is a collection of three floating villages. The villages are home to about 2,000 to 3,000 residents in total. The area is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve due to the unique species of plants, fishes, and animals found there. We will take a tour of the village, where we will have a chance to try fishing and explore Kompong Phluk’s flooded forest as well.

Tonight, we will visit one of the Angkor Night Market.

Day 12Kulen Forest Elephant Tour/Cooking Class/Phare Circus

This morning we will go an exciting visit of Kulen Forest for an elephant tour. Elephants here have been rescued from the tourism industry and “retired” to live their life in this sanctuary and roam as they please. We will learn more about the efforts of this organization and others in Cambodia to protect all elephant species here.

This afternoon we will take a Cambodian Village Cooking Class where you will have the opportunity to learn the secrets of Cambodian cooking.

Tonight, we get the chance to see the performance of the Phare Circus, where we will see circus arts that use dance, music, and movement to tell Cambodian folk tales and modern stories.
